John L. Harris DIP AD, MSIA
It was during his early education in Ipswich, Suffolk, when John began to draw and paint. At the age of 14 he was awarded the Anna Airy R.A. Prize for Fine Art. He studied in London to become a graphic design graduate in 1966. In the following years he worked as a graphic designer, film producer, illustrator and painter in watercolour, acrylics and oils.
“I paint exploring the emotional potential that connects through the natural world of weather moods and light plays on the land and water. I have a fascination with the seasons and how they affect the land and the sea, wind, tides and wildlife. My work endeavours to give a private resonance to the viewer, extending a moment in time of naturally recurring phenomena. My paintings are created with inspiration coming from observation of the natural world and the enjoyment of being in wild places that are moulded by the elements, unspoilt as nature intended.“
His work hangs in England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Canada, the USA and Australia. He has exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, Mall Galleries, the South West Academy, the Royal West of England Academy and has had several one man shows including the Bath Festival and Padstow Institute. “It is the continual connection to natural light that has spiritual resonance for me and keeps me painting in my studio."
